tractor steering

Here's a question for everyone - do Farmalls steer harder as they get older or do they steer harder as I get older. Starting to wish some of mine had power steering.

Both. Lifting the front of any tractor and greasing the thrust bearing on spindles or bolster can be a major improvement. Also assuring the lubrication of steering boxes. JD corn head grease (#1 semi solid) will also provide a less leaky method of keeping things moving. As far as your physiology, Several prescription "additives" might be advised by a physician. Jim

It is a little of both . Long gone are the days when i could set a diesel head by myself up on a tractor only using my home made step . And also gone are the days of setting a gas head up on a 706 by myself . The last round of being really sick took a bunch out of me . The 75 lb ft. weights are all i want anymore .

put a steering wheel from a w-6 or w-9 on it, its a bigger diameter and will give you more leverage!!

Vet, I'm a small guy and only one time did I put a head on a super M diesel by myself, no hoist. I did put a ton of gas heads on 4 & 6 bangers but not a chance anymore. I used to lift the axle housings with axle installed on the M's up through 560. I preferred to install them myself to save all the instructions and advice from helpers. Can't even lift a 100 lb suitcase weight now days, well maybe , but know better.

Pete don't know if you saw a bulletin IH put out about steering effort on some of the worm and sector bolster tractors. For complaints about hard steering a max steering torque number was given.

I don't know why you guys are getting weaker, I'm getting stronger as I get older...I remember the days that I couldn't carry $100.00 worth of groceries...
