A year ago I began dismantling a Farmall H with restoration in mind. I dismantled the engine to give it a complete overhaul In the spring serious health issues hit our household that took lots of hours of my time in addition to my farming obligations. Now I'm trying to get back to it but my recollections have "gone cold."
Do the rod bearing cap bolts require a lock washer in addition to the locking clips? If so, which goes next to the cap?

The H uses a small flat hardened washer next to the head of the bolt and the locking tab washer goes next to the cap. Check those flat washers as they like to crack and if the locking washers are in good condition you can reuse them. They are spendy for what you get. Never use a cut style lock washer.

Lock washers are not used on rod caps or main caps.
Best practices today have generally dismissed lock washers in critical applications due to their ineffective holding power in hard materials and hard nuts, and their tendency to split in half causing connection failure. Locking tabs are used and do what they are supposed to do. Jim
