Location of Ballast resister on a 444

So got a call this morning from a guy. He says his 444 will start but as soon as you let off on the key it dies so I figure the ballast resister is bad. So now to save time do any of you know where it is hidden on this tractor>> Thanks
I did hot wire it so he could drive it out of the woods where it stopped running

The resistor is special type of wire from the connector under the dash to the I terminal on the solenoid. You can replace it with a new piece of normal wire and a ballast resistor.

It is a section of the wiring harness as a resistance wire leading from ign coil to terminal on starter solenoid. The small terminal that has two wires with one leading to coil and other back to switch.

I think that is the Bypass wire, not the resistor. The resistor goes from the Key Ign terminal to the coil. Jim

Two wires, one going to coil is regular wire, other one coming from switch has a section of resistance wire in it. Both hooked to the same terminal on solenoid.

There really isn't any bypass wire on this tractor but rather the resistance wire is bypassed. The power comes from the key switch through the multi connecter under the dash near the voltage regulator. The next piece of wire is the resistor which is crimped into the same connector at the solenoid with the wire that goes to the coil. The by pass is the I terminal on the solenoid. When the starter is engaged the I terminal is energized internally from the battery cable contact which provides cranking voltage to coil leaving equal voltage on each end of the resistance wire. When the solenoid is de-energized the current again comes through the key switch through the resistance wire to the coil.
