H Tranny Input Shaft Bearing Replacement

Can the transmission input shaft bearings be replaced with out splitting the tractor or removing the transmission cover? I have the pump out and was just planning on changing the transmission seals, but I find the input shaft has a lot of play. I assume the at least the front bearing is toast and most likely both are. That one looks like it could be changed with out a split. The inner one what I am not sure of.

Thanks,

No need to split tractor. Remove clutch to get shaft out of the way. Then take out the six bolts holding cage in and pull input shaft assembly out. You need to pull belt pulley assembly off to reinstall assembly to guide pilot bearing into shaft. Doing the job this way will give you the important opportunity to asses the condition of that pilot bearing as it is theeeeeeeee weakest link in the whole transmission along with properly replacing worn bearings and seals.

If you remove the flange from the transmission input shaft you can get the input shaft and carrier assembly out without removing the clutch shaft. Also the transmission input shaft bearing can be replaces without removing the belt pulley or cover. On the other hand, doing it Pete's way may be easier if you are not familiar with how the tractor is built.
