Keystone Turbo

Restoring a Super M with a C-281 motor. Block has been cleaned new sleeves and pistons from Bates Corp. Red Power pistons. Turbo will be set up for factory rpm's 1600. Any pointers when I get this as far as set up or things to watch for. Was told by Keystone that these pistons should not be an issue. Using this mainly for show maybe some field work or a tractor pull or two. What can I expect for problems and performance.

Done a bit of reading on those. And I've talked to Keystone as well. There are reports of 75 to 90 horse with no mods except the turbo. They have been bolted to older running tractors.I Am sure that there were many types of pistons used.I read your other post where you were considering 'flatening' your new pistons. Dont do it!Put em in as is and run it.Keystone has a lot of turbos out there. They know what they are saying and doing. My SM with 4 1/8" pistons tested at around 60 hp.It has the domed pistons. If I ever get enough money 'saved',I am installing a Keystone too

Thanks planning on running it with the pistons I have in it. Just have heard alternating stories on the pistons. Wanting other peoples input. Keystone says if I was to have issues let them know there is other things to try other than tearing motor down. But they sounded like the pistons wouldn't be an issue.

Hey Paul, I put a Keystone on my 42 M last summer. It sure made a difference in power, so much so that I tore out the clutch on it. :D Put a new clutch in now, so hopefully next summer I will get a better handle on its power.

All I have to add to the conversation is that make sure your clutch is good!!
