I have an M farmall with live pump on it, the hoses are on the valu that operates the hydralics side by side. problem is if you take the cap off were you would put fluid in while trator is running the fluid shoots out of the filler whole, I know this isnt right, whats the problem.and how do I fix it. should the return line be conected somewere else on tractor.pictures would help Im mostly a green man.

What is happening is completely normal for that 'setup'.Tee the return down to the drain plug to stop the bubble over.

It does not look like a live setup to me.

It looks like you are using the belly pump and the plumbing looks correct.

Maybe you can post better pics but you ought to get a manual for the tree valve.

If you push the clutch you lose the hydraulics, right?

Rick. The tractor pictured does NOT have "live" hydralics. It has a transmission driven'belly pump'. The hydralics stop when the clutch is depressed,Right?A "live" hgydralic pump is located on the distributor shaft(between the distributor and engine).Often times called a "mag pump".It runs anytime the engine runs. The lack of hoses from the distrbutor area and the 'arm' secured open (to the frame) are daed giveaways as to your pump setup.

That is a genuine IH 'old style' that is mounted backwards. That was done sometimes to get tighter turning and shorter wheelbase. My 'guess' is an aftermarket/shop built LP/propane conversion.I dont think IH made a 'factory' propane till the Super M.The SM LPs(that I have seen) had a crossmount tank.

If your talking about the cap that sits close to the distributor/hyd pump that cap is engine oil and yes if you open it when it is running it will have oil flying out of it

The valve shown in the picture is called (in common IH terms) a Christmas tree valve. It is a OEM style 2 way pressure open center valve. The original installation connected the return pipe as it is in the picture. The supply pipe was from the Elbow shown half way down the side and behind the Liftall pump control lever (now locked in the on position with the rusty strut) if the input to the Christmas tree is from the other side of the tractor, and is attached to the front most elbow on that side, it is a non-live Liftall, Belly pump, and, as Delta indicates, it does not lift when the clutch pedal is pushed in.
If the hose goes to the front of the engine, and a external hydraulic pump is bracketed near the governor, and belt driven from the crank, then it does have live hydraulics, and is using the belly pump for a reservoir. In either case, the dumping of return oil from the open center design splashes oil into the filler neck pretty radically. To "fix" it so that does not happen, the valve is going to need to be mounted with new brackets and held in place to allow the re-routing of the return to the bottom drain (with a T and closed nipple) so it does not splash. (quoted from post at 12:16:15 12/27/14) mine has a pump located behingd distributor and a hose as well

So are you saying the tractor in the pic is not yours???

The pic you posted does not have a live pump.....

With a valve like pictured and with the liftall lever to rear. One in picture has a strap keeping the lever to rear. With remote control valve in center position its normal for oil to come out the fill opening when running. In the original IH set up the fill cap used a closable vent valve on top of the cap. It was to be left open when using the side ports on the center housing and instructed to be closed when using the remote control valve on double acting hydraulic cylinders.
Can't tell enough about how yours is plumbed to give a recommendation.
