966 for 6000 ?

I have found a 966 for 6000. Is that a decent price? It has good sheet metal, pretty good tires, no TA, factory delete What do you guys think?

Pictures would help price a tractor, and second if you like it want it need it and don't have to haul it across the country and last can afford it buy it.

I buy a few tractors and the 66 series is one of the best buys out there. They make great auger tractors.I sell a few to a restorer and his top money is $4500 for a running 1066/1466/1566.Tires hours T/A open station all enter in what they bring. My neighbor just sold an original 966 open station on farm sale at $8500.

A 966 is a wonderful beast. It was one of our big tractors back in the day, but that is when 100 horses were a lot. They are robust and very dependable. Don't putt around with it all of the time or it will wet stack and slobber. They like to be worked good. Ours was our loader tractor but it was also the only tractor with a three point so it got used for cultivating feed, etc. our 856 was a wheatland so it only had hydraulics.

mark, I am with "Notjustair" here on a 966.
I have a 74 966 W/ a 2350 IH loader on it.
They Really do not like Idleing around they are really happiest Screaming at the top of their Lung under Load! "Wet Stacking can and will occur, "slobbering oil/Dsl out of the Manifold or Exhaust. But a quick hookup to a load, an make It think You are trying to pull Her Guts out and it stops Slobbering in short order!
Yours sound like a decent tractor I would gather it up in short order! Bring it home today!
My 966 is my Main Stay, and I Love this tractor! My go to for most all jobs! They are not the best AT being a chore tractor, But does 95% of my stuff Well! but you just need to watch you Idle, low RPM time keep it to a minimum
Hope this helps.

John A.

This is my 966 that I bought about 4 years ago. Had to replace 1 rear tire and did replace both rear rims. came with an IN loader. Had 9000+ hours, but used for snow removal and chisel work on my small acreage. Picked it up for a steel at 2500. New the right person at the right time. Brother worked for an IH dealer and it just came in on consignment.
