MW pump question

Is there supposed to be a seal in this
groove? When I took it down all that was
in it was trash and no apparent seal
between the two parts of the pump body.

What is that in the left side of the picture? Looks like the o-ring.

I think there is not a seal or Oring. I think the groove is a drain that takes any leakage back to the hole (left edge) which attaches to the suction side (if I am correct). I think very clean and a whisp of hytac is correct. Jim
