Is this the correct Steering wheel on early Hs and Ms or is it an aftermarket?

Yes IH used the Sheller manufacturing co. and French & Hecht co. spoke covered steering wheels for early H and M tractors. Can't be sure from picture, but looks like a Sheller on that one.
Aftermarket did sell a steering wheel that looked something like that at one time. last one I bought was around 1990, could have made them later.
This is a black and white picture that doesn't show up to good. But think you can see the steering wheel.
Steering wheel size I refer to is the 17.75 and 18 inch diameter for the IH and aftermarket. IH sometimes listed the same steering wheel number as both diameters.

Sheller made steering whels for IH a long time. I have a couple with their name on the back side flat spot. The ones i have came off Bs steel center and spokes rubber on the circle.

RHTX, that is an interesting photo. While it says 1947, it has the very early steering wheel AND the earliest style seat. kelly

The steering wheel is correct for 1939 & early 40 M's an H's. This is a picture of a new 1939.or very early 1940 H.It has the flat rim 36 inch wheels, channel seat, hard rubber steering wheel, small pto with round clamp-on cover, the green an white cross for safety decal above pto, the slant indention in rear-end case cover so seat channel spring allowed to go below top of rear end cover, short muffler with 2 in. pipe, and the same tread goodyear tires that most of these tractors came out with when new. Thanks, everyone. My F-20 (J casting year) had one of these and I thought it was aftermarket.

My 1940 M had one of those, but it is too nice to have been original to the tractor. I also thought it was some kind of aftermarket thing, until I learned that the style is original. I then removed it, and replaced with the newer style like we all are familiar with. I now have it right here in the house for safe-keeping. Mine has the numbers 79222 in a circle on the back side, as well as some kind of logo in a circle, but no reference to either Sheller or F&H.
