Is this the correct hood decal for a 47
Farmall M? If so, I've got the wrong ones
on it.

That is an interesting original picture. The tractor is as stated a 1939 model, but see the hat the driver is wearing? The IH logo that we know and love today did not come out until 1945. For sure by 1947 it was part of the hood decal.

The m is definitely 39 or early 40... early steering wheel and early seat used on 39 tractors. Also cable kill mag and sediment bowl under starting tank. No mistaking it. Jim.

The steering wheel, seat and mag grounding switch all say it is a very early tractor. The logo on the hat is clearly much later. Maybe the picture was taken in 1947.

The side sheet decal agrees with '39-'40 but not '47.

Edit to add: I just noticed the "KK" code on the lower right. It is an IH picture from 1947. Obviously not a new tractor at the time, look at the muffler.

I am disappointed in all the tractor experts here
The picture is clearly a 39-40 farma h just look at the tall oil filter a 39-40 m would have the big fat oil filter and can clearly tell in the photo it is tall and skinny so it is a h also the magneo has the kill switch right on the mag only used on 39-40 models

If he is just asking what decals his 47 m use I am guessing his tractor is not the one in the photo just using the decal for question for sure in 48 our brand new h only had mccormick decals not mccormick deering our new 46 m diesel had mccormick deering decals on hood

Hope this helps

It also must have had the Bosch system as there are lites but still the same pull sw to kill the mag when it was crank started.

Back to the decal question-47 model year should have McCormick-Deering Farmall with the IH insignia. Late 1949 Deering was dropped. The IH was added around 1946.
My 2 cents

Good catch Eddie. I noticed the filter but thought it was just the larger diameter filter used on the early M. Being labeled an M I just took it for granted it was. But the Hat caught my eye! I knew that couldn't be from 39 or 40.

As for the hat. It was probably a new hat that had the IH decal logo on it.IH FORGOT or didn't think to paint the IH on because they started using the IH symbol nearing the end of 1946. Our 46 H made in Dec. had the IH & Mc Cormic Deering on it. The muffler pipe was only about 5 in. long, also made longer in 1947. All the steering wheels, seat, mag switch, & 36 in. wheels were gone by early spring 1940.As these parts ran out on the assembly line, new ones were put on. Our new 1942 H, made in Mar., still hade the tall oil filter canister.By May or June, the short oil canister came about. All the mufflers were without a pipe extinction thru about 1944. In picture also the belt pulley was different, with 4 bolt holes and the lever to engage it was on left side of light post. PTO shaft was smaller and had round plate on outside that splined shaft stuck out. This changed a couple of times after first year. If you look at a lot of IH adv. pictures , you can find that many of the early tractor pictures were used with an added IH on hood side . That's what they did here, but forget to paint an IH on hood. MY 39 M still has the same kill switch Mag. that came on it. Buck

(quoted from post at 17:03:36 12/19/14) This is what the decal is supposed to look like on a 1947 M.
No. The tractor in your picture is missing the "Deering" that was still used in '47.

Is that the correct steering wheel for 1939/40?

My 1940 F-20 had one like that and I thought it was an aftermarket!

Interesting how a picture can be miss labeled and can spark a lot of replies. It is like the picture tests where wrong labels miss direct your thinking.

Left MD is 1947 right 1951. Bates corporation has the correct ones for a 1945-1948
