H Farmall water pump

Water pump is leaking. I tightened the packing nut but I can still wiggle the fan and pulleys back and forth on the shaft. I shouldn't be able to do this should I? Do I have a bearing out? Can a person tear the waterpump apart and replace just the bearings or am I better off to get a new water pump? Where would be the best place to get a new pump?

We just pulled my H water pump apart this afternoon...there are two bearings, two seals and packing that need to be looked at. Of course, IH is closed now, so we will order the parts and put it together later. If it wiggles like you said, one or both bearings could be shot.

It is an easy rebuild, two bearings and seals as others have said. The bearings are #6205 metric bearings that you can get at any bearing supply source (McMaster), seals are CR or NAPA #13084. Shaft = 1.313", bore = 2.106", .375 thick. The pump packing comes from IH. When I rebuilt mine on the SH I made a new shaft, the packing wears into it pretty badly over time. I bought extra material at the time and made up some more shafts. I have 2 shafts left and one shaft that is already pressed into an impeller. I used O2 drill rod so it's harder than the original. Anyone interested let me know. I'd like $10 for a shaft and $13 for the one with the impeller plus $2 for shipping. I also have a spare special nut that the top seal rides on that I turned down to get rid of the grooves. Original dimension is 1.313", I turned it to 1.293". The original seal will work fine with the .020" gone. It's only grease.

McMaster Carr has the 6205 bearings for $7.22 each. The grease seals should be about $6.50 each, compare to prices for a "new" water pump.

do you still have any of the shafts with the impeller attached?

If you could. I would ship you the impeller and you can put the shaft rod in for me. I will pay for the shipping. Let me know something if doable. I would even ship the old rod and impeller if you needed it? I just got this H and it runs on propane so the water pump has a extra hole to shoot water at the propane condenser. I guess its like a radiator for the propane. So I have to rebuild it. I doubt I can find a water pump with that extra hole in it for the propane system. I have the bearings and the seals and the packing just need the impeller and the shaft. Please help. Thank you.

GAUGER can you get me a shaft with impeller? email me at [email protected]
