im converting my sc to 12v. the wiring diagrams show a warning light and no fuse. will delco type alternator work with out the warning light?

Depends on which Delco alternator you use.

If you use a 1-wire alternator, you don't need the excite circuit that the light is part of. In fact there won't be any "1" or "2" terminals, only "BAT," which you hook to the ammeter.

The typical 3-wire alternator needs the light, or a diode, in the circuit to prevent the alternator from backfeeding the ignition coil with the switch turned off, preventing the tractor from shutting off.

You could, if you wanted, wire up a separate "excite" switch that you push after you start the tractor, to get the alternator to start charging. Some people have done that, but most prefer it to be "automatic."

if you go 3 wire, jump #2 to bat stud on back, and then run coil side of ign switch thru something like a 194 lamp to the #1 lug. can hide this under the hood if you want.. lamp is only on when key is on and charging has not started.
