544 year round cab not getting good heat

Just wondering on where the lines should be connected for the system or if there is any pumps that can be installed to help the heating. does not seem to get hot at the exchanger.

AFAIK the heat on these cabs was never very good to begin with, so if you're getting any heat at all, you are ahead of the game.

First thing make sure the valves are open. If you trace the lines back to the engine there should be a valve somewhere on each line to cut off flow for summer.

Second thing is make sure coolant CAN flow. Close the valves, disconnect the lines and try to blow through them with a garden hose. Maybe your heater core is plugged?

As far as plumbing goes I am trying to remember how it's hooked up on the 1066...

I have a 2544, the industrial version of your 544, and I am in the process of stalling heat in my cab. It was a non-cab tractor originally. I am planning on taking coolant out of the casting just above where the lower radiator hose connects and dumping it back in through a tee where the temperature sensor is. Hopefully those will provide the flow and direction of flow that I need.

Anyone have a better route/idea?

Where is yours currently plumbed at?

Currently my return is plumbed into the block drain on the right side of the engine as sitting on the tractor. Which method do you think would be the better way for good flow?

I have an H and an IH 240U that use the block drain as the return for my engine tank heaters. I was going to do this with the 2544 for the cab heater but when I pulled the petcock assembly out of the block it was only a 1/4" fitting and the plug I am thinking of using instead near the lower radiator hose is a 3/8" so the capacity for coolant movement is much greater. I am going to hook it up today or tomorrow so will let you know how it works (if it does...).

Oops...I wrote that wrong. The return is the tee in the temp sending unit line (just like in my H and IH240U), the "source" is going to be that 3/8" plug. I am thinking that the block drain / petcock would be a source not a return - am I wrong?

Plumbed the new heater core in today and it heats like a banshee. I had them flowing backwards the first time but reversed them and it works great now. The output to the heater core comes out of the "tee" I installed where the temperature sensor is, and the return is in the casting where the lower radiator hose connects.

Sorry, I never got out to the barn to look yesterday. Big Buffalo Bills game yesterday and we couldn't stop watching. Too bad Green Bay didn't show up; they would've mopped the floor with Buffalo.

Ah yes, that makes sense.

The temperature sensor is located where the coolant is hottest and under the most pressure. That would be the logical place to tap to feed the heater core.
