o14 engine assembaly

Finaly getting around to putting my O14 overhauled engine together.my question is I've heaard not to use any silacone sealer on the gaskets and I've heard you must use it to insurure no leaks.Others have said to use the black gasket sealer and others have advised against it.On my old fords I cleaned every thing well and only used a little bit of motor oil seemed to work. What say you Gurus out there? Thanks Chuck K.

I'm actually re-assembling an O-14 myself and I hate the blue stuff. No matter how careful you are it still oozes out somewhere and to me it looks like heck. I personally use Permatex #2, the non-drying stuff. Of course I take a lot of care with the gaskets, usually getting or making new ones. Just my 2 cents worth.

I typically do the same as the other two and use #2 but when I have a problem child I use the BLACK permatex. use it SPARINGLY though, it doesn't take much to ooze out where you can see it and remember..........if it oozes out.....it'll ooze inwards too. you don't want it inside your engine
