I found these inside a 966's hydraulic filter housing. The tractor had no power steering, and the lube light would come on if you did any steering or braking. Figured MCV problems, but figured check the filter first. Anyone know what these are for? It's not my tractor, so I don't know any history. He just told me the steering quit working, he tried the 5 gallons over full thing, and still nothing.

Thanks for any help, thoughts, ideas.

The piece of shift link if from the reverse shifting fork and the spring is from the detent in the shift mechanism under cover. You can pull side cover below clutch pedal and verify if parts are from previous failure or if they are missing from shift fork now and you can feel the shift mechanism for detent operation on both transmissions.

That part has nothing to do with steering. Gear shifting parts.Do all the gears work.If so,that is an old repair that they never retrieved the old/broken parts. You need to find out if the pto works. problem is/could be the drive gear broken from the MCV(power steering) pump,or the pto drive is stripped from the pressure plate. Go ahead and renew the hydralic filter. The described problem sounds like a plugged/dirty filter.IH tractors are sensitive to dirty hydralic filters

Thanks. Filter looked good. Found a blown O-ring in the MCV going to the steering. All the gears worked. He backed it into my shop, so probably an old problem. Just thought I would check. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the quick response. Sounds like just parts from an old repair. Just made me nervous finding spare parts in the filter housing. All the gears seem good, and reverse is working fine.

Well the TEE thingy is part of the rec shifting fork the spring is part of the shifting DETENT from the high low and ya found them in the HYD filter.

Also as for the steering see if the PTo is working , if so then it is air locked and lost prime . Two thing to try (1) ru the engine at around 18-2000 and turn the steering wheel to the left . If this does not get the air lock out of it then ya can remove the small plug on the back side of the MCV valve body and fire the tractor up , now this will get messy real fast once it does pick up prime , i do not like doing this myself i hate big messes to clean up. Now it is possible that the flow divider is stuck and may require removal and a light polish with crocus cloth NOT EMERY .
