what have you folk done to seal the numerous little funnels on the top of the transmission? Thanks for all ideas

Put a bolt in each hole and torque it properly...

First time I've heard this question, and I can't say as I've ever heard of anyone doing anything to seal up those holes other than putting bolts in them. I really don't think there's anything you can do that won't compromise your ability to get them out more than it already is due to rust and crud.

so what your telling me is that the bolts that have
never been removed since '49 are not torqued
properly? The gearshift rain boot is in good shape
and the transmission had 1.5 gal of water in it, the
only place I can see that it got in was from the
little funnels by every bolt head??
