Another question for dieseltech or others

I have a 1466 that is leaking fuel around the rotary head that all the lines fasten to on top of the pump that has four allen head screws holding it on. Can this be removed and a gasket or seal replaced or is this a much more complex repair? Other than the leak it starts and runs fine, but it is leaking badly.

Unless the pump is a recent rebuild or new one it is a 99 percent chance the housing the head fits in is grooved where the o-ring seals. That requires a new or rebuilt housing to fix leak. The rebuilt housings are better than the original in that regard. So, that means pump removal and complete tear down.

Yes it can be done without removing the pump from the tractor but Pete has pretty well described what you may well run into for problems.

It is not so simple as just removing the screws and lifting off the head. The side cover has to come off and the throttle linkage disassembled. It can be a bit tricky to get everything back together again in the correct position. I have done it a few times but it is not a job I would recommend to someone who has not worked on one of those pumps.

thanks guys. I know how to swap out the pump and it sounds like my best option. This board and you guys are the best!

I have resealed hundreds of American bosch 100 pumps. If the tractor has sat outside most of its life there is a chance the housing is bad. Not real common, but possible. Pump sets at an angle outward on an IH tractor, this catches the rain water off the hood. Most times a reseal job will do the job. Should cost about 400-500 bucks. Make sure whoever does it for you runs it on a test stand, and does a pressure check. I have seen bad things happen when repaired on the tailgate of the truck. Look around and price shop. If you cant find anyone to treat you right, I would be happy to dry up this pump for you. Good Luck,,, Al Baker(pumpman) 231/757/0064
