update M speed

I removed the distributor from my 340 and put on my
M while parked close hooked the tack drive and read
2300 rpm . WOW ,what we're they thinking ? If I blow
it up I have a replacement so I don't think I will
slow it down just won't run at full throttle unless
I need the power. Last, rechecked mph at wide open
throttle 28 mph 2 lane blacktop GPS no pickup to
guess with.

I've seen farmall H's reved up to 3000 rpms while tractor pulling. While I wouldn't rev to 2300 for long id think you'd be ok

yes. Up to that rpm level for a brief period of time.

You can continue running an M at that overspeed and maybe get away with it, but I've seen more M's with patched "windowed blocks" than any other model Farmall or other make of tractor. Let your consience be your guide, but the fact is IH never did speed up the M or succeeding models with the M style engine to gain power.
