460 Stuck Governor

The governor seems to be stuck so that I can't move the throttle. The throttle hand on the steering wheel is really hard to move.

I can tap lightly on the throttle arm by the governor and get the engine rpms to change. I can move the arm to the carb just fine and the engine rpms go up and down.

I've sprayed the linkages with PB Blaster hoping there's just some gunk making things stuck.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

I had a similar problem on mine, those various
linkages between the throttle lever and the governor
are very prone to seize up from too much weather,
rust and crud....I actually broke one of them while
moving the throttle, turned out that it had been
welded once before! I would check the linkages that
are directly beneath the battery, particularly to see
that the shaft moves freely in its bushings. Hugh

I took the throttle linkage apart and it was a real simple fix. A linkage pivot arm was gummed up/froze.

Here it is after cleaning and putting back together.

Now the old girl goes from 800 RPM idle to 1800 RPM (PTO) just like new.

Thank you!
