MW Handclutch results!

I finally got time to put things back together today and put the front unit of the mounted picker back on. Late this afternoon I picked a load of corn with it and it didnt appear to slip a bit! In the end all I did was clean up what I could and tighten up the adjusting nut. I had attempted to tighten the nut before with little results. I had done this with the front unit on so I was basically standing on my head. It was much easier with the front unit off! There is also a possibility that the brake was sticking so taking the cover off and cleaning things up may have helped also. Thanks so much for everyones help. Hopefully it will at least get me through this years picking. Thanks again! Lee

When I bought my 1st M in 1973 it had an M&W hand clutch and I didn't have a clue what it was. I ordered a parts list from the company and I was off and running. Back then some parts were still available from M&W. I bought another bucket of parts from Herb Fromelt, an IH dealer from Minn. Someone had bolted the plates together instead of fixing it. I put all new fiber clutches in it. I was hoping you could tighten the bolt and get yours to function. Ellis

So guys when that hand clutch is set right, and working properly, does it snaps overcenter, and sounds like it means business, or is that too tight?

Thank You J54, I think i will stay on the good side of you, if you have a book on that . I called Steiner Parts Co, They didn't have one.

Harry, you must have talked to the wrong person at Stiner.I recieved my manual for the M&W handclutch today. They included a new catalog with the order.

I am missing stuff in modern view????

Anyway, go to Steiner web site and search M&W, comes right up.

Several month back I post pics of parts list and operators manual for those clutches. It was either here or on tractor talk.

When they are adjusted properly you will get a defininite snap when it goes over center.
