I need a clutch disc for my A. It has the It has the atwood clutch, is it possible to us a Rockford disc? They look different but about the same size. The parts book says the clutches may be switched but not individual parts. Anyone no a source for the atwood disc?
Thanks, pardon the typos

If you go to the official on-line parts store, they call it an "Atwood". (They also call a facing and rivet package an "exciter".)

I wouldn't have believed it, but when you click on 351297R92, one of the disc options for the "Atwood" clutch, it subs to 56631DB, which is shown in the Rockford section, as the lined plate/disc for the Rockford.

The Atwood Vacuum Machine Company established a division to build clutches in 1936. In 1938 they moved that operation to Auburn, Indiana under the name Auburn Manufacturing Company. So it is a lot like a Hydromatic transmission from General Motors. Oddly enough, Atwood was based in Rockford, Illinois.

It has been a while since I have touched a clutch in an A, but I believe the entire clutch disk is interchangeable with a Rockford disk. The rivet positions are different so you can't reline a disk with the wrong brand of lining. I believe there are some disks that were drilled for both rivet patterns.

I know I had a bad Rockford pressure plate "cover assembly" in a Cub. I had an Auburn on hand. So it went in with the original Rockford disk. It works fine.
