12v lights with factory 6v switch

I have a 1952 Farmall H that is converted to 12V.

I have used the search and it seems like I can use the 6 volt light switch on a 12 volt system. If this is wrong someone please tell me. If I can use it could someone please post a picture or explain the way to hook it up? The 6v is a positive ground but the 12v is a negative ground so I am sure something has to be hooked up different on the switch. The lights were all cut and aftermarket lights were on the front where someone would just plug a wire in direct off the battery. Any help appreciated!

Thanks in advance guys.

Wire it up as for 6v. there is no difference. The amount current flowing will be less in 12v than 6v. (assumes watts value of the 12v light bulbs are similar to standard 6v bulbs) Amps times volts equals watts. Polarity is irrelevant in a resistance load like lights. Jim

Back up one page and type bob m wiring diagrams in the search box, every thing you ever wanted to know about it. Don't worry about the light switch.

correct, the electrons do not care which direction they travel through a light bulb, or dimming resistor. They do care which direction they flow related to amp meters, and alternators/generators/ignition coils(coils need to have the wire connected to the points on the same terminal as the ground. In this case, negative) Jim

No worries as previous posters note.

The ONLY difference you will notice on 12 volts is the front lights will burn a bit brighter in the "D" (dim) switch setting.

Frankly, I would avoid leaving the lights on the dim setting for very long. Just skip right over it.

That little resistor on the back of the light switch will get RED hot inside the electrical box with 12V running through it.

When switching to 12v I didn't use the resistors in the switch and so now I have rear light and front lights. Been a couple of years and all seems to be working fine. Just replaced the 6v bulbs with 12v and they are brighter.
