IH 2500? shuttle transmission

Need some help with what I believe to be a 2500
industrial. It looks like the industrial version
of a 574 or 674. Painted over at least once,
covered in grease and grime. If there is still an
I.D. plate, one would have to know exactly where
to look or it would never be seen. Problem today
is no reverse. All else works just as it did
yesterday, but when reverse is selected, nothing
engages. I see a valve body on left near the
clutch/inching pedal, and all that seems be to be
working, so the problem must be internal.
Guessing tech manuals on these units might be
hard to find, but I'm just getting started
looking. Was hoping someone out there may have
some experience on them, maybe guide me to some
test ports, expected pressures, any thoughts,
tricks,etc.

Hi Harry, I take it from your description that it has a Hydrostatic drive transmission commonly called a Hydro.

See caseih parts at:

A Hydro 84 would be similar ag tractor.
Search archives for "Hydro" as some of the former IH mechanics like Owen and Pete23 have given excellent advice on diagnostics on Hydro models.

If it is a

No. I don't think it's a hydro. I've just been going through the online parts book and I see a hydro version as well, but this one doesn't look like what is pictured as hydrostatic drive. There is another version with a double clutch pack(one fwd one rev) a spool type selector valve with an inching spool/pedal. This looks more like what this tractor might be.

Sounds like an 8x8.

Reverse is on the column?

If no reverse and you have forward drive, then you've likely lost the reverse clutch pack.

I have a 2500 that has a shuttle shift on the left side for forward and reverse. The transmission does not have reverse gears if you put it into that spot tractor will not move.

I understand that. I'm hoping someone may have
some tips on where any test ports may be, what the
pressure should be(although that spec is less than
critical), and most importantly, any tech manual
info on what it takes to get said clutch pack out
on the table.
