MW Hand Clutch Issues

The hand clutch was slipping on my Super M so I printed off all the information that I could find on this site. I tried adjusting it by tighting the adjusting nut and it didn't help much. I have taken the cover off and I am trying to disassemble it so I can replace the clutch plates. With the cover off and the adjusting nut and slotted washer removed I can not get anything else off. I can't get the washer off that is behind the slotted washer or anything else off. I am missing something or is there a trick to this? In addition, I am having some computer problems so I will be interminent on checking this. Thanks for your help. Lee

Best to pull the whole center unit from the drum and service it on a bench.

Also that parts store in Lennon, MI has a good manual for them.

I am guessing you have a failed bearing in the cam unit which may have spun on the shaft.

I do have some parts left in stock.

How much threads were out past the nut????

(quoted from post at 17:31:04 11/18/14) Thanks Kevin I will order the manual today, but meantime how do I pull the assembly?

The assembled clutch pack is only held in by the cover so it should just slide out of the brake drum

I assume you removed the big cover???

Lee I don't mean to hi jack your thread, but I am in need of a
part for my M&W clutch for my super h. So Kevin if you have a
cam assembly I would really like to speak with you. Email is
open. (330)506-9557 thanks.

I do not have any cams left. What is wrong with yours?

I do have the outer bearing and the balls are standard.

I think the manual was/is on this site. Search to the left. Good luck. I have one on a parts H so I have been following the thread.

The manual here is an old scan for a super m.

Brand x is nice repro covering regular and super with parts drawings

Thanks JD. I had already downloaded the manual on here. It is in vintage ads of all places. What part of TN are you in? I live on the plateau about 20 miles north of Crossville.

Kevin mine keeps disengaging on its own. The clutches are
fine, I have even pulled a # 8 plow with it just playing around. I
adjusted the nut to where it should take about 30lbs of force to
operate the the handle but it still disengages. I'm thinking the
cam is worn.

Does it snap over center with some authority???

Have you ever had it apart for a clean and grease?

How much thread do have outside the nut??

Kevin it does not snap over with authority when I engage it but
when it disengages it comes back hard. Yes I have had it apart
to clean everything and grease it but it didn't help. Could it be
the grooves that the ball bearings ride in are worn? The tractor
is not here but if I remember right the threads are about flush
with the nut.

If somewhere near flush the plates must be in good shape.

I worked on one last year and outer bearing shot, guy had issues with engagement.

I assume you checked both bearing when it was open.

The cam could be worn if it was never greased.

I have seen them set up wrong and the are pushed to the point that the balls are beyond the grooves!

Yes I checked the bearing and it was was in good shape and I
made sure the balls were all in the correct position before I put
it back together. I can't figure it out, I would love to get it
working so I could bale hay with it. If you run across a cam
assembly, please keep me in mind.

I was on the soil judging team back in the day. We were king locally but got smoked when we went out of our area.

By the way, you guys with the M&W need one of these...

If you get a chance, pull the cam off and get some pics.

This is one I sold a while back, it has some wear but was working fine
