Farmall BN conversion to widefront

My neighbor has a BN that he would like to convert to a wide front. He has obtained a wide front (probably from an A???). Are there any big road blocks to converting? The length of the steering shaft coming out of the wide front housing seems to me to be much longer than that of his narrow front. Is that a big issue, do you have to have a different steering shaft (steering wheel to u joint?)

Thank You

My Dad did that some yrs back and he just used the A steering shaft.
The only other thing is that the left side axle on the A front end will not extend out far enough to match the rear tire. But that's not a big concern

Yes the steering shaft on the A is a one piece long shaft. His shaft has been cut off for some other purpose . Just take the shaft from the narrow front and put it in the A assy then use the same steering shaft. Rest of the assy will bolt rite up. If you move the front wheels to follow rears it will not turn good just leave the fronts set as narrow as they will go.

It also might look and ride a little funny because the center pivot for the front end is offset. Really for a B/BN, it should be centered below the engine.

But you definitely don't want to set the front out to line up with the wheels like gene says, because you would have to extend the left much farther than the right. That'll mess up the steering geometry, so one wheel will probably scratch and jump going around corners.

Hey Gene do you think it would help if you could use the tubes out of a C front end?
That is if they are the same size as the A axle tubes.
My Buddy just sold a C wide front. Darn!

Yes it could be used but why cause if you dont have them set the same width when you turn one wheel will turn more than the other and it makes it weird so just set them all the way in. I had one and played with the width didnt like it so i put a narrow front on and then sold tractor. By the way dont need a wide front for an A GOTS A NICE ONE.

Appreciate the comments. Will start cleaning up the front axle next week. Will post a picture when it is finished...
Thank you all!
