Tractor wouldn't start

Most of you already know that I am no stranger to tractors not starting/charging. Sat. I used this tractor to haul two deer out of the woods because it had the carry all on it. Brought it back to the barn and parked it for the night. Sun. I needed to haul another deer. Tractor wouldn't start. Battery fully charged but dead. EVERYTHING electrical on this tractor is new and bright. This is what is weird. When I would hit the foot switch the little eye bolt that used to hold a battery box top would reach over and stick to the clutch foot lever. Magnetized. I pulled it and it started right up and ran for an hour. Brought it back to the barn and parked it. Mon. it started perfectly to move my son's camper back to the little barn. Does anybody have any ideas? The day it wouldn't start it did have some snow on it because somebody forgot to close the barn door. Ellis

The starter was probably jammed into the ring gear. (stuck) Loosening the starter bolts and wiggling the starter frees them till the next time. A new cushion style drive fixes it. Jim

If a little snow was all it took to put these tractors down, nobody would be using them anymore.

You should be able to unjam the starter by rocking the tractor a little bit in road gear, if that is the problem.

Could also be a "dead spot" on the starter.

starter might also be loose so it doesn't have good enough ground. If it is jiggled enough (like when you pulled the tractor) it hit again. Sounds like the same problem we were having with the combine on the farm here. When we had it by the shop for another problem, we checked that over. All it was, was the starter was loose. The snow has no effect, some of our tractors sit out for weeks covered in snow, or dump snow on them going the woods start every time (if it has a good battery at the start of the day)
