First post, Question about a super A

Hi folks, Just bought a super a with belly cultivators that has been sitting in a barn for a long time. The owner inherited it. He stated that someone started it 15 years ago just to see if it would run but it hadn't been used for 30 years or so. I got it home and had it running the same night. It seems to be in good shape for the most part.
The main problem I am having is with the release bearing. The carrier will turn 90 degrees and the fork will not catch it. I can get my hand in there and rotate it back and it will stay for a while but it is very loose and will turn again eventually. I am wondering if there are some retainer springs missing or something?
I bought this tractor to cultivate weeds in organic garlic that I am growing for farmers market and health food stores in our area. I have a mf 255 with a front end loader but i wanted something a little more nimble to work in the field after it is planted.

I think you must have a bent/worn fork or an ear worn or broken off the carrier, maybe even that tube the carrier slides on is broken.
I replaced all that stuff except the tube a year ago on my Super C when replacing the clutch, wasn't having any trouble with it, saved the old parts, just looked at them, don't see anything else it could be.

What do you mean carrier bearing. The bearing is pressed into a holder that rides in a fork shaped bracket. There are ears on the bracket that the bearing sets in. Does the clutch work ok or are we worring about a problem we dont understand. I could see the tube out of place with engine not being used and grease getting hard ect. Maybe you should split the tractor just to make sure everything is up to snuff.

I am not sure of the correct name for the part. I thought it might be called a release bearing carrier. the part the release bearing is pressed on to rotates 90 degrees and fork does not catch the ears. when it is this way the clutch will not release. if i rotate it back where it is supposed to be it works again until it ends up turning. i looked at it better today and I can see some space on either side of the fork. maybe the fork got bent or the flat sides are rounded off the bearing carrier. I think the pilot bushing is acting up as well so a split will be in order i think.

I got my tractor split to put the new clutch in.
I need a little help with the sleeve that the
release bearing rides on. I see in the schematic
there is a release guide sleeve. Inside my
release bearing carrier there is a paper thin
sleeve that is mostly worn threw. The majority
of the sleeve is not there. From the pictures in
the diagrams I cannot tell how that sleeve
mounts. It couldn't just float on the input
shaft? i cant figure out what the sleeve
attaches to. ill put some pictures in another
post

I believe the sleeve is suppose to be pressed into the housing but it looks like yours is broken up. Wear on the carrier and fork thingy are probably also evident. The sleeve may be hard to find because it is usually part of the housing. I see the other parts you probably need on E Bay frequently. Is part of the sleeve still in the housing? If so, at least the housing may not be damaged.
Good luck
Dennis

Looks like the sleeve may be available through Case/IH parts.
at least there is a price listed.

I'm not sure if part is in the housing I didn't see anything though
. Before taking it apart the carrier would turn 90 degrees in the fork causing the fork to slip over the outside of it. Is that sleeve something that can be obtained still?

I was able to find a new sleeve at a case ih dealer and have it shipped. The sleeve slid into the clutch housing without a lot of force so I tool it back out and peened the end some. It drove in hard after that so hopefully it should stay put[/list]
