Replacing Super H PTO seal

I am currently waiting on my manual but does anyone have a diagram or description of how to replace the PTO seal? I've heard it takes 2 new seals to replace the old one, is that true?

Its pretty easy. Drain gear oil, pull the old seal
and press in the new one, refill transmission with
gear oil. New one will likely be thinner than the
old, but only one is needed.

On the M Farmall, there are 3 different [seal's -o rings] for the PTO,i just went thru that this summer, and all the grease leaked out,Too cold now to worry about it!! Look up your serial number, and check it out to make sure u have the right parts/seal, because you don't want to buy that grease[gear oil] the 2nd time.

You do not have to drain any of the oil out of the transmission, just park on a hill with the front pointing downhill. Remove 3 bolts and you can pull off the seal retainer, knock out the old and press in the new seal. The new seal will be thinner but only one is needed.

I did one on an H years ago and only put one seal in it. Just see if
there are grooves worn in the shaft from the old seals, if there are
you may be able to move the seal in or out a bit to be on a less
worn spot. Another thing is to wrap a piece of paper around the
PTO before sliding the seal over the splined part as they can nick
the seal when sliding over. I parked mine in the door of the shed
so the rear end was about a foot higher than the front and that was
all it took to get the oil low enough to take the PTO off.

You just press the seal out the back of the retainer, correct? I can't seem to pop it out, even with a large amount of force.

Yes, I understand the old seals weree thick cowhide ones, made by Chicago Rawhide. New ones are synthetic, can be much smaller, but work jsut as well. I understand just becuase you CAN fit in two, you do not need to.

I drove mine out with a punch and a hammer. They got pretty torn
up but they were being replaced anyway so I didn't mind.

Lucas, I have a Super H, too. I just got the new seal for my PTO shaft. I haven't changed it yet but don't think it will be too difficult. Good advice in this thread.

I tried using a socket(for even force distribution) and a hammer and they weren't budging so I wanted to make sure I was doing it properly before I tore it up to bad. Thanks for the info guys.
