Diesel with 5 speed and ta.When operating tractor can stop tractor with brakes and it will not bog engine worse in higher gears.Engine clutch not slipping.Worn ta?

The slippage is either caused by the master clutch, or the TA clutch, or the TA ram/roller (one way)clutch. If the tractor will not move in 4th with the TA rearward, the ramp/rollers is toast. (two way split to fix)
If the tractor will not move/pull in 4th with the TA lever ahead (direct) it is the TA clutch (one split, or 2 if you replace the ramp/rollers at the same time)
If it is slipping either way the lever is moved, it is probably the main/master clutch on the flywheel. Jim

First off, how do you know it's not the main clutch? You would have to have X-ray vision to know that. If you have X-ray vision why can't you use it to see what's really wrong?

You've got two possibilities here:

1. Main clutch.

2. TA clutch is shot/misadjusted, AND low end of TA is out.

If you are sure (how?) that it's not the main clutch, then the low side of your TA is out period.

When just the TA clutch is out, the tractor will still pull in low range.

Probably should have said on initial post that I had bottom inspection cover off and I had someone in seat with foot on clutch pedal and brake pedals put in gear let clutch out while I watched from below.Engine clutch turning with clutch cover but tractor not moving with brake pedals depressed.I know it sounds dangerous but I knew tractor wouldn't move.Doesn't seem to matter if ta handle is forward or back or what gear it's in.By the way superman laughs in the face of danger.

The engine Turns the drive shaft tube for live hydraulics and PTO the sighting of the trans drive shaft with the clutch on it is not happening. Was the TA body turning? Jim

No way you can tell if clutch is slipping from looking at it in that manner. The outer shaft you see is the pto shaft, the transmission shaft runs inside of that hollow shaft. You could take the cover off TA and look and that will tell you. I'll bet my next weeks paycheck the main clutch is slipping. Oh, forgot, retired and don't get week paycheck anymore.

Thankyou guys for helping me out.Lesson learned I shouldn't make assumptions about a machine I've never worked on before.Again thankyou.
