sc oil pump

does the oil pump need to be primed after reinstalling into into the block and if so how do you do it?

Usually it is easiest to put a bit of petroleum jelly on the gears, but IIRC it is below the level of the oil, and does not need primed. The system could use a fill up before starting if it is a fresh rebuild. Use a squirt oil can and a rubber adapter to fill the system through the oil pressure threads in the block. Pump till it becomes harder to do. Jim

If you used assy lube no reason to worry about priming the pump. The pump is in oil when you have filled with the 5qt needed so as you turn the engine over its pumping oil and with bearings covered with the assy lube no reason to worry.

I use an air over oil system to push oil thru the gage port to fill the entire oil gallery system. That way oil is present at all bearings immediately on start up.

never had an issue on little Farmall engines.
rebuilt pump, assembly lube is enough.
used pump, after dunking it in a pail of oil and turning the gear to see if it works has been enough here.

after assembly, always a good idea to turn the engine rapidly with the plugs out, either with the hand crank or spinning a rear tire in high gear.
When oil pukes out the gauge hole, I know I'm good.
