Adding a 450 reared on a Super M

I tried searching and I seem to only find info on installing a SM motor into a 450.

I want to do the opposite and install a complete 450 rear from the bell housing back onto my SM. My only concern is what will I have to do for the hyd and steering wheel pedestal? Will the 450 holes line up?

(quoted from post at 07:54:08 11/08/14) Trying to make a SMTA? Or just fixing a blown up 450
motor with an M motor?

I'm trying to make the SM a more versatile tractor on the farm. The 450 rear has a 2 pt hitch, and the live PTO would make the tractor useable.

Yes,the engine will bolt up. But I cant say for sure
if the other stuff will fit.May have to do some
fabricateing.I have a SM.It has live
hydralics,MWLPTO,3point.Still one of the most used
and useful tractors I own.

Do you have a SM with a 2 bolt or 3 bolt starter mounting now? Do you have a Engine driven hydraulic pump now?
If a 2 bolt starter you will need a 3 bolt one. Need the 450 clutch & PP. If no engine driven hydraulics you will need that and some type of reservoir, piping and valve. If you use the 450 transmission top cover, modification to mount the steering post and the shift lever will need bent and maybe made shorter. Need to make a rear fuel tank mount. Need longer throttle rod, choke rod, wires ETC. Longer rear steering shaft needed. Use one from a 400 if you want a keyed steering wheel from the SM. If not use the 450 shaft and steering wheel. If you put the SM rear steering post on the 400 transmission top, put spacer on the bottom to raise it 3/4 inch.
If you want all bolt on parts find some SMTA shift forks, install them on the SM top cover and install it on the 450 transmission. Get the hydraulics and reservoir from a stage 2 SM or a SMTA and they fit on the SM top cover and also takes care of the rear fuel tank mount. SM live hydraulic suction and pressure hydraulic lines would need more length to reach. Also with the SM top cover the steering post still needs raised 3/4 inch to match the steering shaft angle. Steering shaft raises as it goes toward rear of tractor and the steering post will be mounted about 5 inches more to rear compared to the SM.

D Slater, I do have the three bolt starter, engine driven hyd pump and the 450 clutch/pp. My hyd hoses need replacing anyway and I can modify the shifter easily. SMTA parts are not available in my neck of the woods at all.

Thanks for the info.

One problem with mounting the SM under the tank reservoir on a 450 transmission cover is the cover doesn't drop down ahead of the shifter like a SM. getting it mounted takes some work and it will end up a little taller than on a SM or SMTA. Not enough that it can't be used. Another option without using a belt pulley gear box is to mount the reservoir at the SM length from the rear of engine. Make the rear reservoir mounting holes in the cover and a bracket bolt to the holes where the belt pulley gear box went. Then leave the rear tank support on the reservoir in the present location instead of moving it to the front set of mounting holes in the reservoir needed if reservoir is mounted back to the SMTA position.

Shawn,You're going to end up with a 'Frankentractor'
that will never be quite right. And it will have
littlr resale value.So unless it's a special
tractor(grandpa's)Trade it for a different one that
is what you need/want. Or better still, keep the
Super and try to find a 450 or 560.Maybe even a
7/806.

If you mean the center housing to transmission is different? Yes, but he's using from the rear of engine back. SM engine is what's in a SMTA with a different clutch and pressure plate. If he puts the 450 clutch on the SM flywheel the SM engine is a bolt onto the 450 center housing.
