High pitched squeal

Super C. I just finished a complete overhaul, sleeves and all,
about two weeks ago. Its been running good for the first three
hours or so of run time. Today a high pitched squeal developed
and sounds like it is coming from the very front, up around the
accessory belt. After a couple of minutes of run time, just to get
back to the shed, it starts smoking a bit up front. I have lube in
the fan assembly. Is there anything that you guys have dealt
with that sounds obvious? Alternator or water pump pulley
bearings? I havent had time to look because i had to get the
little goblins ready for tonight.

I'd wonder if something didn't get into the alternator cooling fan and keep it from turning. A random wire or the edge of the sheet metal or something. That's my first thought.

Why don't you take belt off and spin fan water pump and alternator. If belt is smoking you should be able to tell which one by spinning and see how bearings feel. One of them should spin rough or turn hard.
