A little OT: Farmall Tractor Wrap for my Pickup

Has anyone ever thought about, seen one, got one, a vinyl wrap for a Car or Truck that was Case/IH Farmall tractor related?

The paint is fading/dulling on the hood and roof of my 2000 Ford F-150 and I was thinking about doing those 2 areas or the whole truck in a wrap. Since I do Buy/Sell/Restore/Collect Farmall Tractors I thought it would be good advertisement, and a good way to pay respect and keep alive Farmall tractors. Just wanting some feedback and some ideas, because Google comes up with NOTHING.

I have a better idea, hang these from your ball hitch.

Surely there are plenty of places that will vinyl wrap your vehicle for you. I doubt if you'll find a place that has tractor-themed vinyl wraps ready to go, but any vinyl place can print out anything you want, and stick it on your vehicle.

The only problem you will run into is trademark infringement.

Unless the vinyl shop is licensed to use things like the IH logo, then they are committing a crime by printing out a big IH logo to put on your truck, for example.

I didn't think the old "IH" logo was copyrighted for some reason. Do you think I could get in touch with Case/IH and see if they'd sponsor a rolling billboard? Or if they would allow the use of the IH logo at all? I am wanting to go through an actual "Vehicle Wrap Shop".

Just bringing to top to see if anyone had ideas, have seen this done, or has done it themself.

Not copyright, really. Trademark. Anybody that uses that logo on a product has to pay a royalty to its owner in order to be legal.

AFAIK, that logo still belongs to CaseIH, or Case-NewHolland, or whatever it's called this week.

Now the vinyl shop you find may not even ask questions. It won't hurt to show them what you want to do and see what they say. Some places are more sensitive to the law than others. Some places don't care. Some places may even have the logos licensed.

That said, even if everybody ignored the law and put a giant unlicensed IH logo on the hood of your truck, the odds of you getting "busted" are slim to none. It will only become an issue if enough people copy what you did, and all of a sudden there are dozens of trucks running around with giant IH logos on the hood. Then the vinyl shop that did it might get in trouble if they haven't dotted their I's, and crossed their H's. See what I did there?

haha, yeah that is a good one.

I think I was thinking about the fact that IH didn't have a copyright on their publications....not a trademark on the logo. 2 different things, but I got them confused.

Yeah, probably the case about not getting caught, but I wonder if they'd pay for a rolling advertisment or wonder if I should ask about doing it first? I know the Farmalls aren't made anymore so it wouldn't necessarily be an "ad" but you would think they would like that.

I wonder if anyone else has done this with the IH Farmall tractors? Anybody good at Photoshop or have any good ideas for a design?

To be honest, I dont think that a company would pay to have their logo on your car, especially if it looks like a corporate marketing function, like a wrap. The situation is too uncontrolled. They cannot keep you from speeding, parking in certain areas or at establishments where they dont want their logo, or even *gasp* parking it at a JD dealership.

Plus, I am not saying this to be offensive, but a company would want to have the wrap on a newest model year of a vehicle, not a 15 year old one, no matter what the shape of it is.

If a company was to agree to pay for this, there would be a long list of restrictions and strings attached that may limit your unrestricted use of the vehicle also.

You may want to approach this from a "hey, can I use your logo for free for a personal, not-for-profit project I want to do."

Vinyl wraps can be made from any picture or computer
designed to any imaginable scene. Contact your local sign co.
They should be able to either do it or refer you to someone
who can.
