Red Green Hydraulics

I have a Farmall 460 & J D 3020. How do I set 'em up so I can use either tractor? Farmall has round, ball end (Pioneer?) and Deere has "old style". Ideally I'd have a male JD plugged into the 3020 which had a female Pioneer end on it. Is there any such thing or way to do this? Thanks for advice (other than
ridding my self of the Deere (lol). kelly in tx
ps I really need tutoring on hydraulics as I don't know about closed and open centers, etc. When I grew up on the farm (more than 50 years ago) the only hydraulics were the lifts of the two row cultivator on the Farmall H and the American loader and the Ford three point hitch. k

You can have either end on your implement and get a adapter to use for the other color tractor. should be able to find the adapter at your dealer or farm store.

There's a million ways to resolve this.

You can go to tractor supply, get the appropriate male end to plug into the JD, a short length of hose or a threaded coupler, and a female pioneer coupler. Times two for each.

The short length of hose will prevent strain on the 3020's couplers. Otherwise you will have this big long conglomeration hanging out 12" from the tractor, which can be easily caught.

You can also change the 3020's female couplers to Pioneer style.

You can also change the H's female couplers to JD style.

All you need is the right thread on the new coupler where it attaches to the tractor. There are a few different types of threads, which all thread into each other, but don't seal up if you put the wrong two together. There's NPT, O-Ring and JIC. Adapters from one thread to the next thread are available.

If you can't find the correct adapters easy enough just pick up a couple of Pioneer female couplers and mate them via a close nipple to a pair of JD male ends. And NO, they won't reproduce. Make sure to get JD couplers with pipe thread and not O ring as they come both ways.

So, there is hope? Great! Thanks for the info and advice! You're great! kelly P.S. I think I'll go the short length of hose onto J D male and Pioneer female on other end of short hose. I DO know where I can get hydraulic hose made, so seems simple. Super! Thanks again. kelly

I have a little question that may hinder. Don't the green machines run at a higher pressure? Just asking.

Simple answer on open or closed center is in an open center, the pump pumps continuously and the valve(s) have a spool design that allows fluid to pass through unrestricted when in neutral or center position and back to the reservoir. A closed center, the fluid is blocked when the spool(s) are in neutral or center position. In this case, either the pump has to return to a "standby" or near neutral position, or there has to be a separate valve that by-passes the flow and maintains a near zero standby pressure. Many systems today have a pressure/flow compensated pump that returns to a near neutral cam position in a closed center position. These systems react better than an open center because pressure and flow are instantly available when the control valve spool is moved.

Simple explanation of course, and in many modern systems it gets more complicated, but that's the basics.

Adapters are available from Shoup Manufacturing in IL . Or you can do as already stated with the fittings or hose deal. We do both the fittings and hose.
