Farmall H keeps dying

I had my H running like a top for about a month. Then I was going up a slight hill and for some unknown reason it just died, like it ran out of fuel. I rolled it onto flat ground and started it back up, once on the incline, it died again. Now it will run on flat ground for about 30 seconds or so and then it will die, almost as if the float needle is sticking shut, cutting off fuel supply. Ive already taken apart and cleaned the carb and made sure the float needle was free and clean. I also tried tapping on the carb with a ball peen hammer just as the tractor was starting to die to see if the float needle was sticking and I could jar it loose. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or why this thing may be dying on me? Any suggestions where to look. Governor? I dont even know what to look for in the governor.

thanks in advance

Disconnect the gas line at the carburetor to see if you have a full stream of from the tank. If there's just a trickle you have blockage in the gas tank. Could be rust or dirt or both.

If you have a full stream of gas remove the tube fitting where your gas line connects at the carburetor. Look for a screen behind that tube fitting that may be plugged with crud. Hal

Contamination in the tank can block the passage to the sediment bowl when going up a grade. and be open when on level ground. If you back up the hill it might just go fine. I place my non-money on the tank. Jim

Whats the best way to clear the blockage or rid the tank of the sediment? Obviously taking the tank off and flushing it out would be best. What about ways without removing the tank. Blowing compressed air back up the line?

Draining it to close to nothing, tilting it to one side and swabbing out the low side of the tank with clean rags on a stiff wire might get 80%. there are baffles in the tank that make issues with through the hole cleaning. Jim

You buys were spot on. Had just a trickle out of the fuel line. Took of the sediment bowl and whole petcock assembly. Took it all apart and cleaned it real well. Cleaned the inside of the tank the best I could. Now were right back to running like a top again. Sometimes it pays to check the most obvious things first. Thanks again fellas.
