i have an international 340 back hoe. I parked it the other day on un level ground and noticed oil leaking out the middle of the rear wheel. suspect there must be a seal leaking. just wondered how much of a job to replace it. anyone know. thanks

getting the tire off/on safely is the hard part. look closely at the bearings while your in there. maybe replace them too.

The hard physical part is getting the tire off. Be careful! While inside check the bearings. I would probably replace them while in there to save tire removal, etc. one additional time. Also check the axle as it most likely is grooved where the seal has been running. It does not seem logical that a rubber seal can wear a steel axle but every one I have had apart is worn. Make sure you block it up good. That means no concrete blocks.

Was looking at the 340 today. I see there are several lug bolts to remove to take the wheel off. what is the cap in the center which is where the oil is leaking from. is there a seal behind it that is leaking. thanks norm

If it is like the 300U, the center bolt and washer hold the splined hub to the axle. There is a rubber gasket at the inner end of the hub to stop oil from leaking through the splines.
