What weight oil is best for 310 engine. IH mechanic I know says 30 wt. & service manager at CaseIH dealer says 10-30. Operator manual says don't substitute 10-30 or 10-40. Tractor is used year around & I live in minnesota but don't use the tractor when it's below 15 above.

Thanks, Dennis

I've used 15/40 in my 706/D310 for 30 plus years.It has 11,000 hrs
(never OHed) and runs strong.Use a good quality diesel oil.I used to use Phillips, now use NAPA Fleet supreme in all my engines(gas and diesel).

Guess those old operating manuals aren't updated but I guess none of them are. Just got one & it's still going by the 70's. No mention of 15-40 which we run in our 1070. Thanks for your help.

When the tractor was new you'd use IH No1 Diesel oil, SAE30 in summer and SAE10 in winter.

That oil is still available with a CaseIH label on it, so you don't need to mess with success if you don't want to.

You can probably throw 15W-40 in it with no problems either. Engines are generally not nearly as fussy about oil as people think.

I agree. I have the same animal and use the same oil with that many hrs.

My tractor runs everyday regardless of the temp.

Cattle need feed.
