Magnet in transmission case

I am working on a 1958 460 Farmall. I have all of the old Hytran drained (at least as musch as I can get out). Before is refill it I was thinking of putting a cow magnet in large plug between the bull gears. Has anyone else done this? I don't know how close thing are in there and am being very cautious.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I have JB welded smaller ones in the drain
plugs on farmall a's and has always caught
a lot of metal stumper

Thanks, I did not think about JB Weld, duh! I know some metal chunks have to be in there because of the bull pinions I replaced.

Hi, Orrin.

I buy super-strong rare earth magnets on you-know-what Bay and put them on all my drain plugs. They are disc shaped, and measure about 8mm in diameter by 1.5mm thick (skinny enough to avoid clearance problems). Sometimes I JB weld them to the drain plugs, sometimes not.

When I busted the differential carrier on my H I put
several magnets in the trays that direct oil to the
bearings. After cleaning the case and everything as
well as I could the magnets still collect a lot of
metal.
