I have a 44 M with a M & W 201PX live pump and a right angle Delco Remy distributor and have an odd problem.
Last winter while pushing snow I could not keep the tractor running- seemed like it was starving for gas so I spent a bunch of time checking the carb to no avail. Finally discovered the distributor was full of oil and fouling the points. I cleaned the distributor up and it ran fine.
I used the tractor in the spring to grade the driveway and had the same problem- much quicker diagnosis this time! Figured the seal on the distributor was failing so instead of using oil to lube the distributor I used grease hoping it would be thick enough not to work past the seal.
Tractor ran fine and used it a few times with no problems until yesterday- same problem!
It was not grease in the distributor so I am guessing it has to be hydraulic oil.
Anyone have any insight? Is this a seal problem or do I have a major leak inside the pump that is pushing pressurized oil past the seals? Are there parts available for the M & W pumps? I searched on-line with no luck.
Thanks,
Nate
