Best Oil for 1950 Farmall H ?

Howdy,
I just picked up a great running 1950 Farmall H.
I want to change the oil in the motor and hydraulic unit.
I was wondering what oil folks like the best to keep her running another 64 years!
I live in Michigan and it will get COLD!
Thanks Folks,

I have a 54 Super H. It calls for straight 30 weight in the engine, 80 weight in the rear end. I couldn't find 80 and went with 80W-90 gear oil

Clean oil is the best for your tractor. Sorry,
couldn't resist. I'm using 15W40 diesel oil in my
'40 H engine (in Minnesota) and Hy-Tran in the
hydraulics to be compatible with my other tractors.

Rotella T 15w-40 in the engine.
Hy-Tran or universal hydraulic fluid in the hydraulic belly pump.
80w-90 in the trans/rear end.

The oils and lubricants called out for in the owners manual were the absolute best there was at that time. Todays oils are MUCH better.

The motor oil that you use in your MODERN car does NOT contain the additives needed in these old tractors. The Rotella T does have it, but make sure you get the Rotella T, not just Rotella 15w-40.

Genuine CaseIH Low Ash engine oil also has the additives.

We always use straight SAE 30 CaseIH Low Ash oil in all the gas tractors, and we have for close to 40 years.

Agree with everyone else to use HyTran (or EQUAL - don't use cheap oil in anything) for the hydraulics. Gear case should be 80w-90.

Engine oil can be a hot subject. As was mentioned above, the SG/SH oils are a lot more improved than what was available in 1950, and offer a lot better protection at a lower viscosity to reduce wear at a cold start. Do some reading at BobIsTheOilGuy.com - very educational, then make your decision.

I'm using a 10w30 in my SA because it was worn out when I got it, otherwise I'd use a 5w20 all year.

Since the original sepc calls for an SAE 30. Hytran may be to light. The liftall is just a gear pump

The real beauty of the belly pumps is that the pump really doesn't care what is in it. Many, many folks began using Hy-Tran in the Hs and Ms when they bought newer tractors, and wanted to keep just one container of hydraulic oil on hand. I'd guess there are both Hs, and Ms, that have lived more years with hy-tran in the pump, than they did with non-detergent 30 weight.
