farmall 460 gas, ta delete for a loader tractor

Good, bad, ugly? Narrowing it down. Posted the other day on the JD forum about a JD 2010 with loader, consensus was to shy away from it. Same ballpark is a Farmall 460 with loader. It's usage would be general farm cleanup, moving dirt, rocks, wood. No field work, no chores, just use it to lift anything that would otherwise break my back.

All other things being equal I like the TA, on my 300 it is a very handy thing to have but if you have found a good deal I wouldn't think it was necessary.

If JD people aren't recommending the 2010 then it must be a pretty bad machine. We used to have a loader on a H that worked pretty well and that was the days before live hydraulics. I would think a 460 in decent shape would do a real good job. I don't think a TA would add much value for what you are proposing to do.

So you're saying the 460 is a TA delete model? If so, considering how you will be using the tractor, you'll never miss not having a TA. In fact, for that kind of work, the TA delete would be a PLUS.

You have a penchant for the "black eye" tractors don't you?

The reason they told you to shy away from the Deere 2010 is the transmission, and the fact that when they go there's nothing out there to fix 'em with. While the 460 had its problems at the get-go, in all likelihood they have been fixed, and repair parts are readily available.

The reason I know about the 2010 is my uncle had one until this spring, when it would only shift into a couple of gears. It was not stuck in two gears because it drove fine in those gears. Something else was wrong, but I can't remember what... All I know is that there were no parts to fix it so he traded it in on a blue one.

Why is a TA delete a plus for a loader tractor? My 300u has no TA from factory and it's my recently acquired loader tractor

I don't know if I would consider it a plus. Rather, "not a minus."

TA is always a plus except when it's wore out.

What do you use a TA for if it not being used in the field? The only time I use the one on my 350 is when I plow the garden. I drop the plow as deep as it will go and ride a wheelie across the patch at 1.5 MPH. Otherwise for hay and chore duty I never need it.
