Please help!! I have replaced the magneto ,coil, rotor, points, distributor cap ,condenser, distributor drive gear, new magneto cover. It has new plugs and wires. Points are set at 13 but it still will not start. It acts like it is not getting any fire. Tried sparking arc with coil and no spark. What else can I do??

Make sure the lead to the kill switch is not grounded, it must be neither grounded nor connected to any source of voltage (the kill switch is "open" when in the run position. The wire from the coil to the points, the wire connection to the condenser, and the connection to the side of the mag must not be touching ground. Several places are suspect for this issue, the through bolt at the kill terminal, the connector terminal ends on the wires out of place touching the case, or a point spring out of place touching something. If an ohm meter is touched to the kill terminal, and the points are kept open with a sliver of plastic, the reading is usually between one and 3 ohms. If much less it is shorted, if open There is a break in the system or the mag is not grounded (Paint making an insulator from housing to mag) Jim

Im confused! You replaced a non working mag with another non working mag? Threw all those parts into it, and then you did what kind of sparking arc deal?

Is the rotor lined up with the tower when it trips and are you sure you arent out 180 get #1 on compression and then see where the roto points.

Does the impulse give a good loud snap as it turns? Did you have that little cover off the gears & make sure they are in time? Did you clean the points after gapping them? Condenser should be checked as they are bad out of the box at times.

Pull off a plug wire and hold it away about 1/4"
from the sparkplug while a helper makes an attempt to start the engine. Disconnect the grounding wire at the mag for the time being. If there's no fire rub the points with some 320 wet or dry until shiny. If there's no fire I would check your magnets for magnetism. Use a flat blade screwdriver to touch the magnets. Hal
PS: Even if it the mag is out of time you should still have fire to your plugs. Your plug wires need to be in this firing order on the mag's cap.

2-1
4-3 As the rotor rotates CW

I'm not saying this to be mean, just realistic.

You can change all those parts, and screw it up royally if you don't know what you're doing. It's a function of attention to detail and experience.

It never hurts to go back and take a good long look at what you did, just to make sure you didn't miss anything or set something wrong.

You have to stop putting on parts and get back to basics.

Start at the impulse and points, then move onto the coil before the rotor, then to the plug wires, make sure that is all good.

For testing for spark use a plug and wire in the coil output terminal rather than the normal cap terminal. That will test for spark before it enters the distributor part of the magneto.
