Looking to upgrade from a 806 to something with 130-150HP

I am familiar with JD 4430 (spent a lot of time on one in HS) so was kinda looking for one, however I see the red tractors much more often in my price range (thus the 806 I have now).
Being unfamiliar with IH (other than my current 806) what models might I be looking for and what things to consider on these models?

You wont go wrong with a 1256;1066;1086.Or the next bigger size,1456;1466;1486.Any are first class horsepower.I own a 1256.

If you want that hp. range, similar model to your 806 would be a 1466. Other models would be 1486, 1586, 1566, 5088, 5288. I still own a 1486. Its rater 145 hp. I still use it in the spring pulling a 45 ft. Phillips Harrow. I also still have a 1466. Use it to do most of the bush hogging. Its also rated 145 hp.

I have a 1586 I am partial to. I looked hard at the 1086 with the dual PTO. With the 1486 I was cautious as a lot of those have had the HP turned up to match the 1586 but they don't have the same rear end. Some get abused and damaged. I found a 1586 with the dual PTO added and have been extremely happy with the choice. It's a lot of tractor for the money.

I myself would stay below the 86 series. they are much more complicated for the difference in work. The 66 series was bullet proof and simple.
In a Deere they are all good tractors in the 30,40,50,60 series. they are a lot more complicated than the IH ones of the same time frame though.
I guess hydraulic use would be the deciding factor for me. If I needed closed center hydraulics for running hydraulic motors or not. Yes some of the later Ih ones got there finally though.

1256 and 1456 are relatively rare tractors, and I really don't think you can get a good deal on one most of the time. It seems like the collectors are starting to sniff them out and pay way too much for them.

There are a lot more 1066s and 1466s out there and they just seem like much better deals to me. Same goes for the 1086s and 1486s.

Stay with the 06 ,56,66 series tractors they were real horses. If some one who knew what the heck they were doing with injection pumps they could turn them into some real horses and they could turn them into a lamb also. Check the TA and see if its been replaced and when. If not, make sure they work when the tractor is warmed up.
