H4 Magneto Identification

Hi folks, just bought a H4 mag at a tractor show as a spare for my letter series Farmalls. It is clockwise rotation but the mag body is turned 45 degrees clockwise to the H4 mags to the ones on my BN, H, M, and W6 tractors. The mag serial number is H41100635 Y and the only number I can find on the mounting flange is A750. Iam sure it will fit my tractors if I swop the mounting flange because it as a good spark. Many thanks in antisipation. MJ.

It is probably off of one of the Continental power units used on balers and combines. It could have a different lag angle built into the impulse coupler. You may need to transfer the impulse coupler along with the flange.

This is all conjecture based on the assumption of the original use.

only thing different is the front mount you can remove the drive then the 4 screw and then put on the regular flange for the H. Ive been tempted to try one as i dont see any reason it wont work as the impulse is the same they just rotated the mag for clearence. I know if the front is replaced it works and starts.

Jim is right on the original application being a continental unit of some sort. The impulse lag angle is different. The other thing to look into would be the cam lobe on the armature shaft to see if that is also different for timing the points opening. most of the parts will interchange from one to the other. It might just be easier to trade this mag for the correct style H4 for the IHC tractor. Just a thought.

Thanks Jim, you could be correct with the Continental engines as some early 50T balers came into the UK with those engines on them. Could use it for parts as it only cost me £10=00 or 15 dollars. Many thanks everybody for your help. MJ
