Starting my M revisited

Thank you to all who responded. I did as
suggested and retarded the spark and problem
solved. Apparently, my timing technique left
something to be desired, because retiming the
engine repeatedly didn't help.

how did u time it? when you say u went thought the timing numerous times kinda throws the screws to us. then we get thinking of other things. just had to look at the timing marks the slit second the mag tripped. even with plugs out you can feel the piston coming to tdc and if she trips while it is moving up that is advanced to much. also too much advance like that is also hard on starter switches and the connections, as they get hot. but ya good job.

rustred: Timed it as per the I&T manual. Aligned mark on crank pulley with the pointer, rotated the mag from a retarded spark position 'til the mag snapped and tightened the mag bolts. Then with a crank rotated the engine 'til the magneto snapped and checked the alignment at the crank pulley. This didn't help. Slightly retarding spark as JA Nicholson suggested solved the problem
