Block heaters

Hi Folks

I ordered a magnetic block heater from my B275 from my usual arts guy. what he sent over was a zerostart 200watt init, is that going to be enough? what do you guys suggest? I was expecting .. 1500watt I don't know why I just assumed it would be bigger

I think to get that kind of wattage you would have to go to a
coolant heater. I have a lower hose heater on my 300 and it is
handy sometimes, I think it is 750 watts or something like that. I
don't think the magnetic heaters have a great reputation but I have
never used one myself so I do not know anything. I had an old tank type heater on the 300 when I got it and I did use it for a bit but it didn't heat up all the way anymore and it was kind of messy and stuck out whereas the hose heater doesn't hang off the side to get caught on tree branches.

Glenn 200 watt will help, but i think your going to be plugging it in overnite, but if you had the 1500 watt, you could plug that in for 2 hours, and the temp gauge will be up!

This machine is going to have the snow blower on it. I'd want to be able to plug it in a couple of hours before hand. Even in -25c, colder than that it's usually too dry to snow. so I guess I'd better get something better.

Hi Glenn, we live in eastern Ontario and when
Dad had B-414D, 434 and 384, all BD-154 UK
Diesels, we used a 1000 Watt lower rad hose
heater in the B-414D and the 434. When he
traded 434 for 384, he made dealer install a
re-circulating tank heater.
I thank tank heater was 800 Watt. In all cases
on the coldest days, plug tractor in for an
hour and it was good to start.

They don't make magnetic heater very large for fire
safety reasons. I have a 200W that I use on the oil
pan of our JD4600 along with about a 600W block
heater. I preheat about 2-3 hours and it starts like
summer. We had a B275 when I was young and if it was
cloudy it wouldn't start, you need a big block
heater!

If you use one of those dip-stick tihngs, don't get to wondering if it is working andpull it our and touch it...

The circulating heater sounds like a good idea. are there ports on the engine that go into the water jacket that can be used for them?
