ok here is #2 question:
what wt. of oil should i use in the trans? some tell me 80wt, or 90wt, and even hitrans. also what goes in the hydo lifts, im getting 30wt and hydro oil. my h and m had 30wt in them however the 140 we had had hydro oil.

does the operator manual cover the oil types?

Yes, it is covered in the Operators Manual under lubrication. For the engine it states 10W, 20W or 30W depending on the air temperature. 20W covering the temperature range of 32F to 80F. Takes 5 quarts plus another 7/8 pints for the air cleaner oil cup. A lot of folks on this forum including me use 15W-40 Shell Rotella year around in our older generation IH engines which is far superior to oils available when the tractor was produced. For the transmission it calls out 5 gallons of SAE 90 weight unless the temperature is below 32F in which case 80 weight might be used. For the touch control hydraulic system it call for 6 3/4 pints of Touch Control Fluid which Hy-Tran or equivalent can be used since it is no longer produced or available. Hope this is what you are needing, Hal.

I use 15-40 engine oil, Hy-Tran in the hydraulics, and 80-140
in the trans of 2-SC's, 2-SH's. No issues ever. I did put Hy-
Tran in the transmission of the 300 with TA and it works perfect
also. I put Hy-Tran in the trans of my SH and it will sure show
we here your poor seals are. Seems to leak easier than the
gear oil.

For all the letter series tractors we have (not TA equipped) we use 85w-140 or equal. The older machines were not made with as exacting tolerances as newer ones; these newer machines were engineered with Hy-Tran as the recommended lube.
Hy-Tran is an excellent lube BUT in older machines it MAY cause the transmission gears to make more noise.
