DT436 blowby questions

Ok, have this 1460, which I got pretty cheap
and is doing a great job, starts below feezing
with out either or being plugged in. Has plenty
of power and exhaust is pretty clear except for
when I first crack the throttle, or she eats
ALOT of really tough beans. The issue is oil
coming out of the blowby tube. I wold say it
drips out about a quart every 2 hours, maybe
even a bit more. The vent on this engine is up
on the valve cover, and runs down the side. Is
there any other reaon this could be being
caused as the engine sure as heck seems like
she is tight otherwise. Should I be using
straight 30 weight oil, not 15-40? Cold start
oil pressure pretty much pegs the gauge, once
its been running quite a while it stall has
great oil pressure, even at a hot idle. I did
notice a little bit of antifreeze up in the
engine around one of the injectors.. is not
using any noticable amount of coolant. Any
advice, thoughts, knowledge?

Get a new gasket and filter for the breather. Chances are that the filter element is displaced or deteriorated.

The D239 in my 574 has a lot of blow by. The draft tube on it comes out of the tappet cover on the side of the block, where the later models came out of the valve cover. It would literally leave a oil trail on the ground on hard left turns and use a quart of oil in an afternoon of mowing. I started using Lucas oil stabilizer in it and my oil consumption and the trailing virtually stopped even though I do still have a lot of blow by.

No I have not. I tool the breather off today to replace the filter and the gasket, the breather elemenbt was pretty much falling apart. I was wondering the same thing, if possibly the oil was not draining back down from the top of the head and was overflowing into the breather. I am changing the oil and putting 40wght in to it and see what happens. Only have 12 acres of beans to go, but it is "dribbling out about 1.5 pints in 25 minutes of full rpm.
