230 utility questions

i can buy a rough 230 utility. it's cute,uncommon
around here and I like it.other than having no cash
value.what are some of the problems/drawbacks of
using it as a chore tractor?

The only one I know of is the lack of a Live PTO. Gear selection is a bit limited, but they are handy. Jim

A 230 Utility could be made by combining the rear axles and front bolster from a 240 Utility with a 230 Farmall engine and transmission. Or, by doing some random torch/welder work and using one's imagination. Well either way would take some imagination...

If that's what you mean, it should be every bit as handy as a 240 Utility, and would be a neat conversation piece. As a "frankentractor" it would have no real value beyond what it could be parted out for.

If you mean a 330 Utility, then it's a semi-rare tractor, and it should have a TA and live PTO, though it is possible that it could have neither.

I have seen a picture of a 230U that someone built by using 240U parts and it was a cool looking conversion. No doubt handy where a lower tractor is needed, like inside a building or as an airplane tug. However, unless IH made a special airplane tug, or something similar, I don't believe they were made for general sale.
