Gentlemen,
Restoring a I 300 U . Wanting to replace manual steering box with a power steering unit.
What would it in tale? I am looking to buy a complete unit off a donor . Do I need priority valve and where would it go?
Any advise or expertise appreciated.
Thanks,

First off, good power steering boxes for these tractors are hard to find. Make sure the one you're buying is good.

The job entails taking the manual box off and putting the power steering on, then plumbing it up. It's probably not a simple job but it shouldn't be anything that someone who understands "righty-tighty, lefty-loosey" can't handle. Just keep unbolting stuff until the part you want to remove comes loose.

Yes it needs the priority valve. Make sure you get the valve and all the plumbing off the donor tractor. That will also show you were it is installed.

No priority valve on the 300U(if there is one I never found it)the pick up for the hydraulics is at the right rear of the seat, the factory hose wraps all the way around to the left side. I will just sell you one with P/S and save you the trouble :)

I'll second Jim's suggestion for Jacksons , a friend of mine put their setup on a 300U a couple years ago . Not cheap , but you will probably spend more trying to find a good one off of a 300U or 350U that won't work as well as the Jackson setup.

I have added power steering to a 300u and a
350u with a loader. Both are patterned off
of Jackson's idea but built and designed by
me. 300u is powered by Chevy power steering
pump belt driven off engine. 350u was done
with hydraulics from loader. PTO pump and a
priority valve. If I did another one I would
go with stand alone hydraulics from power
steering pump. Simpler and cheaper. Works
better too.
